Full details of the JSWEC conference are now available, including abstracts for all presentations.

I have extracted all those with a focus on service user and carer involvement in education (see here).  NB I may have missed some!  Hope that is helpful, and inspiring (whether or not you are in a position to attend the conference itself).

Hi Jill, everybody

Very helpful and interesting list. Thanks Jill!

I am hoping to be there. Is it worth trying to arrange a friendly meeting up of us DUCIE folks who are attending at all?

Andy

Hi Andy

Good idea - and for others who may not be aware of the Developers of User and Carer Involvement in Education network but might like to join (NB Am planning to organise DUCIE meetings in May and November too - of which more shortly).

I guess that those people who are at JSWEC will all have involvement in social work programmes, so would it make sense to do something under the auspices of Social Work Education Participation (SWEP)?

Best wishes,

Jill

Jill

May I suggest, as a starter - fellow DUCIErs post in this thread whether you are attending and we can start looking out for each other?

Interesting idea about SWEP - I know guys in SWEP want to invite a strong relationship with DUCIE - (Jill please watch for message I am authorised to send soon :-)   ) Maybe we can do a DUCIE / SWEP informal gathering?

Also, has there been any discussion about a DUCIE twitter channel at all? (We can't use #ducie because it's already being used for something else.) I am thinking it might be useful, given how twitter is becoming more popular in our field?

What do you think?

Cheers

Andy

Unlearning through Mad Studies: disruptive pedagogical praxis

Posted by Jill Anderson on October 26, 2020 at 19:00 0 Comments

Medical discourse currently dominates as the defining framework for madness in educational praxis. Consequently, ideas rooted in a mental health/illness binary abound in higher learning, as both curriculum content and through institutional procedures that reinforce structures of normalcy. While madness, then, is included in university spaces, this inclusion proceeds in ways that continue to pathologize madness and disenfranchise mad people.

This paper offers Mad…
