Enhancing learning and teaching about mental health across the disciplines
Social workers are among the largest group of professionals in the mental health workforce and play a key role in the assessment of mental health, addictions and suicide. Most social workers provide services to individuals with mental health concerns, yet there are gaps in research on social work education and training programmes. The objective of this open access scoping review is to examine literature on social work education and training in mental health, addictions and suicide.

I work with a lot of people with mental health issues and who have been actively suicidal or have attempted suicide. Social workers have little involvement with such individuals I support. I am not criticising social workers. Its just that statutory involvement is lacking prior too or after the event. There is a problem about access to support and a reliance on medical model interventions. Gateway problems. Relationship based social work has a massive contribution to make and we need to re-establish this as an approach.
