A call for innovative learning resources in mental health

Mental Health 4 Life is a national learning resource to promote mental health and well being, prevent poor mental health and improve early intervention. The initiative is supported by the National Clinical Director for Mental Health at NHS England, Dr. Geraldine Strathdee, and key system partners. The organisers are looking for evidence-based learning and training resources for use by the people working in public services (non-mental health specialists) in order to promote mental health and well being or prevent mental illness.

These resources could be:

  • Learning intervention programmes aimed at improving mental health that can be run in non-clinical settings
  • Training for staff who are not mental health specialists to incorporate mental health promotion/prevention and early intervention into their work.
  • Information and online resources that have an educational and training purpose
  • Educational interventions may include commissioning, policy, summaries of evidence

What the organisers are not looking for are new treatments or therapeutic interventions. A selection of the resources with the widest reach and strongest evidence base will be included in a guide for non-specialists to promote wellbeing and prevent mental illness in their work, to be launched in late March.

Please help guide this project by answering this short survey by 6 March to let Mental Health 4 Life know about an existing learning resource on mental health. The questionnaire should take around 15 minutes to complete. It is here.

While madness, then, is included in university spaces, this inclusion proceeds in ways that continue to pathologize madness and disenfranchise mad people.

This paper offers Mad…
