Student mental health and wellbeing
Less than 1% of students disclose a mental health problem to their university. This one day seminar will explore why so few students share their need for support and look at the particular support social care and veterinary students may require to promote positive student mental health on campus. Delegates will hear from students/staff about their experiences and ideas about how HEIs can promote change in this area.
The event will feature practical ideas for supporting students with mental health needs, a discussion of the resources available to students, and opportunities for working together after the seminar to help promote positive student mental health. It will also look at how social care and veterinary students might have particular needs in terms of mental health.
Delegates will leave with an understanding of key issues in student mental health, and a strategy for promoting good mental health on campuses and for responding to situations where students require individual support.
Apologies for the short notice, folks, only just found this myself. Please book your place via the HEA webpage - link given by clicking the Student Mental Health and Wellbeing title at the top of the description. It's being organised by the Health and Social Care cluster at HEA, but I will be attending myself so may well see you there!

Medical discourse currently dominates as the defining framework for madness in educational praxis. Consequently, ideas rooted in a mental health/illness binary abound in higher learning, as both curriculum content and through institutional procedures that reinforce structures of normalcy. While madness, then, is included in university spaces, this inclusion proceeds in ways that continue to pathologize madness and disenfranchise mad people.
This paper offers Mad…
